Established in 1969, the organization coordinates a range of public services across roughly 150 square miles with about 97,000 residents, spanning administration, planning, emergency management, parks and recreation, a regional library, and related programs. It acts as a regional hub for services in government administration and planning, including a regional planning organization and fire protection initiatives, with the aim of delivering cost-effective, high-quality public services to its member communities. Based in State College, the COG oversees multiple agencies and programs within its service area, reflecting a collaborative approach to regional governance and community well-being.
