CESMII is The Smart Manufacturing Institute, a non-profit formed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy as part of Manufacturing USA, and is the ninth institute in that network established to spur U.S. innovation, sustainability and competitiveness. It sits at the intersection of Industry 4.0 technologies and data analytics, aiming to democratize smart manufacturing and improve precision, performance, and efficiency in U.S. manufacturing. The initiative works with a broad coalition—more than 200 partners from industry, leading universities, national labs and associations across more than 30 states. Its mission focuses on rapid technology adoption to deliver real-time business improvements, increasing productivity, energy efficiency, safety, and time to market for manufacturers of all sizes. Based in Los Angeles, California, CESMII operates as a national effort within the automation machinery manufacturing sector. A recent development includes the launch of i3X, an open API initiative to unlock interoperability and scale AI in manufacturing, complemented by the Smart Manufacturing Acceleration Roadmap Framework to guide organizations toward a holistic smart manufacturing mindset.
