CFP Board serves as the professional authority for personal financial planners in the United States, comprising two affiliated organizations that work together to advance the financial planning profession for the public’s benefit. It sets standards for financial planning and administers the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification, widely recognized as the benchmark for competent and ethical financial planning. The CFP designation is held by more than 100,000 professionals nationwide, and the organization operates as a mid-sized nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. 

The CFP Board Center for Financial Planning focuses on diversity and workforce development and conducts research that expands the profession’s knowledge base. In May 2026, CFP Board partnered with the Charles Schwab Foundation to administer a scholarship program for students nationwide pursuing CFP certification.
