CHANGE Illinois is a nonpartisan coalition focused on systemic political and government reform in Illinois. It brings together civic, business, labor, professional, non-profit, and philanthropic groups that together represent more than 2 million members. The coalition pursues issues that can undermine democracy—ballot access, competitive elections, citizen participation, government transparency, unethical lobbying, and redistricting—and works to make government more transparent, accountable, and responsive. Based in Chicago, Illinois, CHANGE Illinois supports public education, coalition-building, and policy development to engage residents in reforms. The organization originated in 2009 as an informal coalition and has since evolved into a stand-alone entity that advances reform initiatives without partisan aims. Recent activity includes a 2023 collaboration to address prison gerrymandering by backing legislation to ensure last-known addresses gathered locally are sent to IDOC, as well as earlier Representable initiatives in 2020 and 2021 that provided communities with maps and data on representation.
