Chapter 510 is an Oakland-based education organization focused on youth writing, bookmaking and publishing. Its programs are designed to provide a safe, supportive space where Black, brown, and queer youth ages 8-19 can develop writing skills, confidence, and a sense of community, with teaching artists and volunteers collaborating with educators. The organization operates both its center and in Oakland public schools, offering free workshops, in-school book projects, youth publishing opportunities, field trips for educators, and community events such as First Friday literary gatherings. Each year, Chapter 510 serves more than a thousand students and oversees the creation and publication of dozens of books authored by Oakland youth. A recent development notes its participation in the OUSD Lit Fest and the release of a new book, When The Stars Bloom in Oakland, at the festival in May 2026.
