Charleston Animal Society is a non-profit organization based in Charleston, South Carolina, with a long history as one of the oldest Humane Societies, dating back about 150 years. It operates a 31,000-square-foot lifesaving shelter that houses more than 8,000 animals annually and is open seven days a week, in addition to two high-quality, low-fee spay and neuter clinics. The organization reunites lost pets with their guardians and provides educational programs to thousands of local schoolchildren. Charleston Animal Society works to reduce animal cruelty and find safe homes for abandoned animals, while acknowledging space and resource constraints as the community grows and adoption capacity is affected. In January 2026, the organization announced The Lifesaving Express, a donated cargo van to support lifesaving animal transport in the Lowcountry and beyond.
