Chicago Filmmakers is a Chicago-based media arts organization founded in 1973 that supports the creation and study of film and video as forms of artistic expression and social relevance. It helps artists produce work outside the mainstream market, aiding distribution and exhibition while building audiences and visibility for nontraditional media. The group also seeks to broaden access to media education for communities that are typically left out of the process. Based in Chicago, Illinois, the organization operates within the movies, videos and sound sector and serves as a platform for independent media with potential social impact. In late 2021, it partnered with Black World Cinema to present CHAMELEON STREET, illustrating collaborative programming with other arts organizations. Earlier, in 2020, Chicago Filmmakers launched two editions of Masterwork: Industry Conversations, a virtual interview series with established filmmakers followed by audience Q&A.
