Child Advocates is a non-profit organization based in Houston, Texas, dedicated to supporting abused children in the foster care system. The organization mobilizes advocate volunteers who are appointed by judges to represent the best interests of a child or sibling group in foster care, serving as the judge's eyes and ears while the children are in custody. Volunteers represent only one child or sibling group at a time and work to ensure their unique needs are addressed until they can safely return home or be permanently placed with a loving relative or adoptive family. This advocacy aims to prevent children from slipping through the cracks of an overburdened child welfare system, and studies indicate that children served by advocate volunteers are better able to work with others and manage deviant behavior, with their parents more likely to complete counseling and related evaluations. The organization has 51-200 employees and maintains a website at https://childadvocates.org.
