Children's Healing Art Project (CHAP)

CHAP is a nonprofit based in Portland, Oregon that provides arts-based support for children and families facing medical and mental health challenges. A mobile team of teaching artists partners with hospitals, schools, and community organizations to deliver art activities across the Portland area. The in-hospital program runs about fifty hours per week and uses a variety of supplies and projects designed to engage each child. Beyond hospital-based work, CHAP operates an Art Club program that provides monthly experiences for medically challenged children and offers CHAP in a Box deliveries to families outside the Portland area. The organization is governed by a board drawn from business, social services, and families served, with volunteers contributing more than 8,000 hours annually, and in 2022 CHAP delivered 8,745 art experiences in the Portland area.
