Children's Home & Aid is a Chicago-based nonprofit delivering child and family services across Illinois. Each year, the organization supports and counsels nearly 30,000 children, youth, and families through programs aimed at preventing child abuse, promoting healthy development, and strengthening families. Founded in 1883, it also participates in public policy work related to child welfare, early childhood, children's mental health, and juvenile justice. The agency pursues its mission by investing in families to disrupt racial, social, and economic inequities, with the goal of creating more equitable communities. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the organization maintains a substantial workforce and serves diverse communities within the state. In 2022, it launched AKIN: Achieving Permanency through Kinship placement, a program model focused on securing permanency for children through kinship ties and supporting co-parenting with natural parents.
