The Children's Law Center of California provides legal representation to children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment and who come under the protection of the Los Angeles and Sacramento County Juvenile Dependency Court systems. Created by the Superior Court in 1990 to serve as appointed counsel for Los Angeles youth, the organization expanded to Sacramento County in 2011 and now serves abused and neglected children across both counties. The center handles day-to-day dependency proceedings as well as related hearings aimed at safeguarding each child's well-being and future prospects. Based in Monterey Park, California, the organization maintains a sizable staff of lawyers, paralegals, and investigators totaling around 600 professionals. It represents all 25,000 children under the jurisdiction of these dependency courts and engages in advocacy to support policy reform within the child-welfare system. In 2025, the organization announced the appointment of Jennifer McCartney as Firm Director.
