Insights

Community Engagement CAMOC is the only Chinese American museum in the Midwest with active programming, partnerships across Chicago, and a focus on intergenerational and intercultural dialogue, offering multiple touchpoints for community outreach and sponsorship opportunities.

Cultural Partnerships Recent and ongoing collaborations with local institutions and events (e.g., annual benefit dinners, partnerships with AARP, and Spotlight Series) indicate strong potential for co-hosted programs, cross-promotions, and corporate sponsorships aligned with heritage and education.

Educational Content A robust archive of regional media, books, and artifacts provides rich storytelling and scholarship potential for paid research, exhibitions, youth programs, traveling showcases, and paid lectures or workshops for schools and corporations.

Sponsorship Readiness Historically active fundraising (24th Annual Benefit Dinner) demonstrates donor engagement and event-driven revenue potential; exploring multi-year sponsorships, grants, and cause-related marketing could scale revenue while aligning with diversity and inclusion goals.

Cost-Conscious Growth With revenue under $1M and a small team (11-50 employees), CAMOC presents opportunities for scalable partnerships, volunteer-driven programs, and outsourced program management or sponsorship fulfillment to extend impact without proportionate overhead.

The Chinese American Museum of Chicago (CAMOC) is a small nonprofit museum in Chicago focused on Chinese American culture through exhibitions, education, and research, with the aim of preserving the community's history and its contributions to the Midwest. The museum occupies a historic building that formerly housed the Quong Yick Co. in Chicago's Chinatown. It opened to the public in 2005, and after a major fire in 2008 underwent renovations before reopening in 2010. It is governed by the Board of Directors of the Chinatown Museum Foundation, a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Its programming has included the Spotlight Series, launched in 2022 to showcase work by emerging and mid-career artists of Chinese descent, and the 24th Annual Benefit Dinner held in 2025.
