The Chisholm Trail roughly follows modern day US Highway 81.  Highway 81 is parallel to Interstate 35, and an easy diversion from popular sites like the Wichita Wildlife Refuge in Lawton, Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur, Oklahoma City metro area, and Route 66.

Cross the Red River into Oklahoma (if you are traveling in from Texas) and within 30 minutes you can arrive at the The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan. Featuring high tech, interactive exhibits including a 4D theater showing an exclusive 18-minute film where you experience a longhorn stampede and southern plains thunderstorm.  

Join Jesse Chisholm and Cowboy Tex at the Campfire Theater to learn how the Chisholm Trail earned its name. 

Be sure to explore the Garis Gallery of the American West’s multi-million dollar art collection and the largest single sculpture dedicated to the Chisholm Trail, Paul Moore’s “On the Chisholm Trail.”

Duncan is a great stop for Main Street shopping offering everything from western boutiques, antiques, and the popular Distinctive Decor store that has things you need for your kitchen, but didn't know. Be sure to stop at R&S Drugstore for a good old-fashioned soda fountain lunch and grab a few pieces of their specialty chocolates. 

Western fashion is easy to find in Duncan. Locally owned stores, Crutcher’s Western Wear, and Stockman’s The Cowboy Store, have the latest in cowboy wear. Both stores are located on highway 81, just a few minutes from the Heritage Center. 

Just remember, a day trip to Duncan begins with a stop at the Heritage Center.
