Citation Oil & Gas Corp. is a privately held independent oil and gas company focused on acquiring, developing and producing hydrocarbon assets in the United States. Based in Houston, Texas, the firm traces its founding to 1981, when Forrest E. Harrell, Sr. established the company and began building a portfolio of mature, long-life properties through disciplined acquisitions and development. The company holds interests in roughly 15,400 wells across more than 419 fields, containing about 208 million net proved barrels of oil-equivalent reserves, and it produces around 25,600 barrels of oil per day and 27 million cubic feet of gas per day. It operates the majority of the value of the properties in which it has an ownership interest, and its reserves are predominantly oil with a reserve life index near 17 years. As a sizeable private operator in the oil and gas sector, it pursues development and production from mature properties through in-house management of many of its assets. In March 2020, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced a proposed settlement with Citation to resolve alleged violations of federal regulations intended to prevent oil pollution.
