Citizenship Counts is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization focused on educating middle and high school students about citizenship and the role of immigration in a diverse society. Through an interactive, multi-disciplinary curriculum, the group aims to foster understanding of civic participation and often culminates in a school-based naturalization ceremony that offers students a firsthand view of the democratic process. The program emphasizes developing student pride in citizenship, encouraging community involvement, and encouraging responsible civic engagement.
Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the organization operates within the civic and social sectors and supports a youth-focused mission with a relatively small organizational footprint. Its work targets students and schools, seeking to address gaps in knowledge about the citizenship process and the responsibilities that come with citizenship, while connecting classroom learning to community service opportunities.
