The City of Des Peres is a municipal government in the St. Louis region of Missouri, operating as a Fourth-class city within the state's local government framework. It began as a village in 1934 and changed to a Fourth-class city in 1953 to broaden taxing authority in support of city services. Since 1973, the city has employed a City Administrator to assist the mayor and Board of Aldermen in managing day-to-day affairs. Its primary constituents are residents and local businesses, for whom it provides municipal services and maintains community infrastructure. The city has maintained Fourth-class status and has not pursued changes to third class or charter status despite population growth. In March 2024, the Board of Aldermen discussed a plan with Novus Development to develop a 6.51-acre parcel at the southeast corner of Dougherty Ferry Road and Highland Avenue.
