The Keene Police Department is here to ensure the quality of life in Keene by protecting life and property and maintaining order within the City, while assuring fair and respectful treatment of everyone. The safety of all residents, businesses, and visitors to our community is paramount. Our Department values building and maintaining partnerships and trusting relationships in our community. Every member of the Keene Police Department is committed to the philosophy of community policing and are empowered to incorporate the ideas and spirit of this concept while carrying out their daily responsibilities. The men and women of our Department perform their duties with the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, which are truly the foundation of our Department’s day-to-day operations. The Keene Police Department dates back to 1825 and has grown and evolved as American society has changed. In 2000, the Department was reorganized into two divisions in order to continue to deliver the highest level of services in modern times. Today, our Operations and Administrative divisions are each headed by a police captain. Our two divisions handle everything from criminal investigations to traffic. As members of the Keene Police Department, we each commit ourselves to being capable, caring people doing important and challenging work for the benefit of all citizens within our community. It is our vision to continually strive to anticipate the future needs of the community and develop effective and efficient responses to those needs. We pledge to continually seek new techniques, training and equipment to optimize public safety. We place priority on competence, ability, and potential.
