About the Community: The City of Lomita is located at the base of the Palos Verdes Peninsula approximately five miles inland from the Pacific Ocean in the County of Los Angeles. Approximately two square miles in area, the City has a population of around 20,000 residents. The majority of the parcels within the City are residential, with commercial uses concentrated on Pacific Coast Highway, Narbonne Avenue, Lomita Boulevard, and Western Avenue. Lomita boasts a small town feel that is unique within the Los Angeles metropolitan region. The City contains five parks as well as a Railroad Museum dedicated to the era of the steam engine. About the Organization: The City was incorporated in 1964 as a general law city and operates with a Council/Manager form of government. The five council members are elected to four year terms, with one council member appointed to serve as mayor on an annual basis. The City of Lomita is a contract city with law enforcement and fire protection services provided by Los Angeles County. The City operates its own water utility with a groundwater well and treatment plant located along the southern city boundary. The City employs a dynamic team of 43 full-time staff and approximately 45 part-time staff.
