City of Mesquite is a government administration entity serving one of the larger cities in the Dallas–Fort Worth region. The city employs more than a thousand people and provides a broad range of municipal services and programs. Its community features a mix of cultural and recreational offerings, from rodeo events at Mesquite Arena to performances at the Mesquite Arts Center, and it sits about 15 minutes east of downtown Dallas with strong highway and airport access. Founded in 1873 as a depot stop for the Texas and Pacific railroad, Mesquite has grown into the 18th-largest city in Texas, with a population exceeding 140,000. It offers affordable housing, recreational opportunities, a solid education system, and a retail and dining scene anchored by the Town East Mall. A notable recent development is the promotion of Raymond Rivas III to Deputy City Manager in March 2026.
