The City of Santa Clarita functions as the municipal government for a 73-square-mile area north of Los Angeles, encompassing Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus, and Valencia. With more than 225,000 residents, it ranks as the third-largest city in Los Angeles County and has maintained a profile as a safe and livable community since its incorporation in 1987. In 2026, the city announced capital investments tied to the Santa Clarita Marathon, such as an eight-acre expansion of David March Park to provide new sports facilities, playgrounds, and gathering spaces.
