The City of Santa Clarita functions as the municipal government for a 73-square-mile area north of Los Angeles, encompassing Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus, and Valencia. With more than 225,000 residents, it ranks as the third-largest city in Los Angeles County and has maintained a profile as a safe and livable community since its incorporation in 1987. The city administers a range of public programs and events and includes Old Town Newhall as a flourishing entertainment hub for visitors to enjoy live music, cultural events, restaurants and shopping. Eight city departments, including the City Manager’s Office, Public Works, Recreation and Community Services, and Library Services, are supported by nearly 500 full-time employees. The organization delivers services across recreation, neighborhood services, community development, and economic development. In 2026, the city announced capital investments tied to the Santa Clarita Marathon, such as an eight-acre expansion of David March Park to provide new sports facilities, playgrounds, and gathering spaces.
