Shafter was founded in 1913,  incorporated January 19, 1938 and established Charter City status June 6, 1995.

Located in Kern County, California's Central Valley, Shafter is a strong community that is committed to its citizens and business residents.  Shafter is home to 18,000 residents and is the population center of California.
