Cityside is a nonprofit, nonpartisan journalism organization serving the Bay Area. It operates three local newsrooms—Berkeleyside, Oaklandside, and Richmondside—and also publishes Nosh, the East Bay food coverage. The organization reaches more than 500,000 East Bay residents each month and emphasizes reporting that strengthens community connections and engages residents on local issues. Cityside is based in Oakland, California, and was founded by journalists Frances Dinkelspiel, Lance Knobel, Tasneem Raja, and Tracey Taylor; Berkeleyside began in 2009, Oaklandside in 2020, and Richmondside in 2024. The mission centers on amplifying community voices and examining systems that affect local life, rather than focusing solely on symptoms.
