Clarendon College is a higher education institution located in Clarendon, in the Texas Panhandle, with a 107-acre campus on the town’s western edge. Founded in 1898 by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, it is the oldest higher education institution in the Texas Panhandle and was later reestablished in 1927 as a non-sectarian junior college. The college operates as a state-assisted community college and serves eight counties, with ongoing support from the Clarendon College District through property taxes. In 2020 the college entered a collaboration with West Texas A&M University to broaden access to bachelor's degree programs for the communities it serves. As part of Texas’s system of state-assisted community colleges, Clarendon College focuses on expanding postsecondary education opportunities within its service area. The institution’s long history and campus setting underline its role as a regional provider of accessible higher education.
