Claxton-Hepburn Medical Campus Building on the proud legacy of Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center (CHMC), the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Campus (Claxton Campus) is dedicated to meeting the emergency and acute care needs of our community. With a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care across multiple centers of excellence, the Claxton Campus features a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital and a 10-bed observation unit. By providing advanced care and specialized services, Claxton Campus continues the legacy of supporting North Country families with exceptional healthcare. Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Established in 1855, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center (CHMC) holds the distinction of being the first hospital in the North Country. In October 2024, the Medical Center transitioned into a standalone psychiatric hospital, dedicated to providing acute inpatient mental health services for both adults and children. The center includes 28 beds for adults and 12 beds for children and adolescents, ensuring critical access to specialized care for the region. The Elizabeth May Duvall Child and Adolescent Behavioral Center, located within the Medical Center, is the only inpatient facility of its kind in the region. With plans to expand by 10 additional beds in the near future, the center is addressing the growing demand for high-quality mental health services for young patients. CHMC continues to honor its proud legacy by delivering compassionate, patient-centered care to support the well-being of families throughout the North Country.
