Cousins Bob Hionis and Sam Demetratos founded Claymont Steak Shop in 1966.  The cousins, who came to America from Greece, remembered the hunger that plagued their native country after World War II.  They knew if they had the opportunity to own a business, they would be sure to offer generous portions to satisfy their customers.  That is the inspiration from where the signature, award-winning steak sandwich was born – made from fresh, never frozen, rib-eye steak sliced right on the premises.

Over time, Claymont Steak Shop has become a Delaware institution, winning awards year after year for our signature steak sandwich.  In 2005, Demi Kollias purchased the original store and has continued offering food with generous portions, quality, and freshness as her top priority.  Demi has opened two more locations, one in Newark and the newest one on the Concord Pike in Wilmington, and they all follow the same successful formula.
