Clifton Steel is a mid-sized steel fabricator and distributor based in Maple Heights, Ohio. Founded in 1971, the company originally produced heat-treated abrasion- and impact-resistant steel for coal mining and coal power plant operations in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, and developed the Tensalloy brand during that period. It later expanded to serve additional sectors, including scrap recycling, railroad, mining equipment, and the military, with the aim of reducing customers' life-cycle costs. In 2004 Clifton Steel opened a 140,000-square-foot facility in Maple Heights and began in-house heat treating for armor plate, complemented by high-definition plasma cutting to meet close tolerances. A second full quench-and-temper line for armor plate was added in 2008, and operations from the Phoenix and Pittsburgh sites were consolidated at Maple Heights to centralize capabilities, resulting in a single-location facility offering machining, cutting, and forming.
