Coastal Carolina University is a public, comprehensive liberal arts institution located in Conway, South Carolina. It offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and over 30 graduate programs across six colleges, including doctoral programs in marine science and education sciences. The campus spans 621 acres with 115 buildings and includes facilities for marine science on the East Campus, along with satellite locations along the Carolina coast. Coastal Carolina competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Sun Belt Conference, fielding 17 teams and using the Chanticleer as its mascot. Founded in 1954 as Coastal Carolina Junior College and becoming independent in 1993, the university has grown to its current status, and in 2026 it announced leadership changes in its athletics program, including new baseball coaching appointments.
