Codex DNA is a San Diego-based biotechnology research company focused on synthetic biology. It develops tools and solutions that enable researchers to rapidly, accurately, and reproducibly build DNA and mRNA, including the BioXp system, an end-to-end benchtop automated workstation. The BioXp platform is designed to address bottlenecks in multi-step DNA and mRNA construction and to facilitate downstream applications such as antibody-based biologics, mRNA vaccines and therapeutics, and precision medicines. The company employs between 51 and 200 people and has grown through acquisitions, including the 2021 purchase of Eton Bioscience. In 2022, Codex DNA announced collaboration with Pfizer to develop mRNA vaccines and biotherapeutics and launched the BioXp 9600 system in September 2022.
