Since 1861, College Church in Wheaton has stood for the gospel of Jesus Christ. This focus came through the vision of its founding pastor, Jonathan Blanchard, also the first President of Wheaton College. While not officially affiliated with Wheaton College, the church first met on the college campus. Unlike some historic institutions, College Church has never relied upon a charitable foundation. It runs on faith by the generosity of the members and attenders of the church who are committed to its gospel vision. Core to the essence of the church has been compassion. Blanchard was an abolitionist who worked against slavery during most of his life. Similarly, during The Great Depression, rather than look after itself, the church committed to a massive long term investment in global missions. That legacy continues today with hundreds of missionaries around the world. The value of God’s Word as the message of hope, and the anchor of faith, is integral to College Church’s identity. Then…and now.
