Comic-Con International is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation focused on increasing public awareness and appreciation of comics and related popular art forms through conventions, exhibits, museums, and other outreach activities that celebrate the contribution of comics to art and culture. Its flagship San Diego Comic-Con began in 1970 as a one-day minicon and has grown into a multi-day event that draws more than 130,000 attendees, with a campus-like footprint spanning downtown San Diego via satellite venues, hotels, and outdoor spaces. The organization also operates WonderCon, which started in Oakland in 1987, was moved to San Francisco in 2003, and has since been held in Anaheim since 2012, illustrating its expansion beyond its original locale. 
Based in the San Diego region, Comic-Con International employs a substantial staff and runs programs that engage a broad audience of fans, exhibitors, and members of the public. A notable development in 2026 was the decision to ban AI-generated artwork from the San Diego Comic-Con Art Show.
