The Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) is a government-owned electric utility in Mexico that generates, transmits, distributes, and sells electricity for about 26.9 million customers, and adds more than one million new customers each year, serving roughly 80 million people. Its generation fleet comprises 177 plants with an installed capacity of 50,248 MW, of which 21 plants (22.8%) were built with private capital by Independent Power Producers. CFE employs diverse technologies and energy sources, including thermal, hydro, coal, geothermal, wind, and nuclear facilities. To deliver electricity, CFE operates more than 732,000 kilometers of transmission and distribution lines, reaching about 188,000 localities (184,613 rural and 3,325 urban). The company serves a broad population, with 96.68% of people having access to electricity, and it is organized as a decentralized public entity with legal personality and its own assets. Headquartered in Mexico City at 164 Reforma, the organization has more than 10,000 employees.
