Commonweal Magazine is a nonprofit media organization that publishes across multiple formats and hosts conversation-oriented events to foster rigorous discussions on faith, public affairs, and the arts within a framework of the common good. Its work aims to connect the intellectual and active lives of lay Catholics who seek meaning and justice, offering analysis and dialogue that consider justice, charity, and critical intelligence in the Catholic tradition.
Based in New York City, the organization has a long history dating back to 1924 and operates within the book and periodical publishing industry. It presents itself as independent and lay-led, serving readers who engage with Catholic thought in pursuit of an inclusive future for church, politics, and culture; recent developments include personnel changes and editorial appointments that reflect ongoing expansion of its editorial team.
