Communities In Schools Gulf South is a nonprofit organization based in New Orleans and the Louisiana affiliate of Communities In Schools, the national dropout-prevention network. Its purpose is to surround students with a community of support to keep them in school and help them achieve in life. To achieve this, it places caring adults in schools to address students’ unmet needs, serving as a bridge between educators and the broader community so teachers can focus on instruction and students can concentrate on learning. A core offering is CASE MANAGEMENT, providing a coordinated, strategic approach to help students access services in the community, along with additional supports that benefit many CIS students.

It serves ten charter schools in Orleans Parish and has potential expansion into Jefferson, St. Tammany, and Plaquemines Parishes, as well as the Capital Area, Acadiana, and New Iberia regions. As a small- to mid-sized nonprofit, it operates within the non-profit sector and emphasizes community involvement and collaboration to support student learning.
