Community Cooks is a Somerville-based nonprofit that partners with human service agencies in the Greater Boston area to provide home-cooked meals for the folks they serve. CC generates these meals by mobilizing individuals, businesses, and civic, educational, and faith-based groups in the community to volunteer their time and cooking skills. We focus on supporting organizations and programs that, due to funding restrictions or lack of facilities and/or resources, struggle to provide food for those they serve. Our partner agencies include shelters for unhoused neighbors, after-school programs, supportive residences for people in recovery, and other human service providers that offer critical support to adults, children, youth, and families. Founded as an all-volunteer organization in 1990, Community Cooks became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2012 and now has a paid staff of six, an engaged Board of Directors, and a budget of ~$550,000 annually.
