The Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) is a nationwide professional organization for financial regulators from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, based in Washington, District of Columbia. It advocates for the dual-banking system and provides states with infrastructure to foster innovative and responsive supervision. This infrastructure includes a governance framework and a forum to address shared challenges and enhance regulatory coordination. CSBS offers technology resources to help states coordinate and streamline licensing and supervision, along with professional development to strengthen the state regulatory workforce. It owns and operates the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) on behalf of state regulators. In 2026, CSBS announced that a student team from Tennessee Technological University won the Community Bank Case Study Competition.
