CHCI is a mid-sized, Washington, DC-based nonprofit, nonpartisan organization focused on developing Latino leadership within the public policy arena. Founded in 1978 by Hispanic members of Congress, the institute aims to advance education, expand leadership development opportunities in the nation’s capital, and connect participants to a national network of Latino leaders to strengthen American society. It supports Latino students and early-career professionals through fellowships, congressional internships, scholarships, and Ready to Lead college readiness programs, including R2L NextGen. Over its history, CHCI has served more than 11,800 young Latinos and directly impacts the lives of about 1,700 individuals each year through its programs. In 2023, CHCI launched the Latino Hill Staff Academy with support from General Motors, expanding pathways for Latino policymakers-in-training.
