Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative (CMEEC) is a municipal joint action agency in the utilities sector, established in 1976 by municipal electric utilities under state enabling legislation. It serves as the exclusive wholesale power requirements supplier to its member electric utilities and to the Mohegan Tribe through the Mohegan Tribal Utility Authority, enabling these entities to deliver electricity to their communities. The member utilities include those serving Bozrah, Groton, Norwich, the Borough of Jewett City, and the Second and Third Taxing Districts of Norwalk, each owning and operating their own distribution systems to serve residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Governance is locally oriented, with CMEEC's Board of Directors appointed by the member utilities' commissions, promoting governance transparency and community-tailored policies.
