Cook County Higher Education (CCHE) is a nonprofit organization based in Grand Marais, Minnesota, established in 1996 to mitigate rural isolation and address shortages of skilled workers by expanding access to higher education. It offers certificates, diplomas, and degrees that can lead to living-wage employment within the local community, and has broadened its offerings over the past decade to include college prep, training and development, and lifelong learning opportunities. Operating in the e-learning space, CCHE serves residents of a remote area where the nearest college is more than 100 miles away, thereby providing local pathways to higher education and career advancement. In addition to its core educational programs, CCHE engages with the community through events and partnerships, such as hosting scholarship-related activities and collaborating on specialized courses. The organization is small in scale, reflecting its local focus and regional impact within the Minnesota rural context.
