The Coral Reef Alliance, a mid-sized nonprofit, focuses on protecting coral reefs across the globe through science-based methods and collaboration with local communities. It supports the establishment of well-managed marine protected areas, works to reduce land-based pollution, and helps reefs adapt to a changing climate. Over more than thirty years, CORAL has carried out efforts at local, regional, and global levels in regions such as the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the Hawaiian Islands, and the Coral Triangle, with projects extending from Fiji and Palau to Indonesia and Bonaire. The organization partners with communities to advance scalable conservation that reflects local values and ways of life, aiming for outcomes that benefit both people and reefs. It is based in San Francisco, California and operates as a nonprofit rooted in scientific approach. In March 2026, CORAL expanded its offices to Ghana in Western Africa, signaling geographic growth and a broadened footprint.
