The Cour des comptes is the French Supreme Audit Institution within the government administration, based in Paris, Île-de-France. Its missions, defined and extended in article 47-2 of the Constitution, include assessing, auditing, evaluating, and certifying the use of public funds, with public reports aimed at informing citizens. The organization serves public authorities and public-sector bodies, providing oversight to promote accountability and improve efficiency in public resource management. In 2022 it launched a citizen participation platform that allows citizens and associations to submit proposals for audits. In February 2026, Amélie de Montchalin was appointed First President of the Cour des comptes by the President of the French Republic, a development noted in recent reporting.
