Mustang News is the student-run newspaper serving Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, a publication with roots dating back to 1916. It provides coverage of news relevant to the campus community—students, staff, and faculty—and functions as a practical training ground for students studying journalism, graphic communication, design, and business. Editorial content is produced entirely by students without direct supervision or censorship from the university administration. The online platform, mustangnews.net, has earned national recognition, including the Pacemaker award for the best collegiate newspaper website.

Based in San Luis Obispo, California, Mustang News operates as a division of Mustang Media Group, which was established in 2013 to coordinate Cal Poly's journalism programs. As a student-led publication, it emphasizes independent editorial oversight by its student staff and centers its reporting on campus affairs rather than institutional messaging.
