The Cumberland Community Improvement District (CID) is Georgia’s first public-private assessment district, based in northwest Atlanta, that funds infrastructure projects through local commercial property assessments. Formed in 1988 by business leaders to improve highway access for the Cumberland submarket, its mission has evolved into a broader program that includes road and transit improvements, streetscapes and beautification, trails, and related community planning initiatives. These projects aim to raise property values and benefit the wider community by enhancing transportation options and surroundings. In recent years, the CID has advanced mobility initiatives, including the Cumberland Hopper autonomous shuttle pilot and related activities under the Cumberland Sweep, supported by regional partners. A notable development was the opening of the final mile of the Bob Callan Trail in September 2025, in partnership with Cobb County and the Atlanta Regional Commission, marking a concrete expansion of regional connectivity.
