The David Douglas School District is a mid-sized educational district in Portland, Oregon, covering roughly 12 square miles in the eastern part of the city. It was formed in 1959 through the consolidation of Gilbert, Powellhurst, and Russellville elementary districts and the David Douglas Union High School District. The district operates ten elementary schools, three middle schools, one high school, and an alternative campus, serving more than 10,300 students, including about 23.7% English Language Learners and 67 languages spoken across its student body. The district provides full-day kindergarten at all elementary schools and maintains a comprehensive high school program with diverse electives and career-focused opportunities, along with a non-traditional high school campus at Fir Ridge serving around 230 students. In 2026, David Douglas High School opened a Career and Technical Education Center to expand its postsecondary preparation options. The district has earned recognition for music education, being named a Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation in 2024 and again in 2026, and has pursued partnerships such as an exclusive service arrangement with COR Disposal & Recycling for East Portland campuses in 2025 and collaboration with Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization since 2023.
