DC SAFE is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit in the field of Individual and Family Services that focuses on assisting survivors of domestic violence. Founded in 1997, the organization grew from a single advocate serving the DC Superior Court to a broader network that relies on staff, volunteers, and interns and has supported more than 25,000 victims since 2006. 

DC SAFE's work centers on trauma-informed support to help survivors navigate civil and criminal justice processes, interact with first responders, and pursue accountability for batterers while seeking reforms that improve safety and self-determination. A notable program launched in 2009, the Lethality Assessment Project, screens survivors for risk and directs those at highest danger to expedited services through the organization's and partner agencies in the District.
