Decipher is a market research firm based in St. Louis, Missouri, that helps clients grow faster and hire more effectively by integrating proprietary data-driven insights with human intelligence and market strategy to shape growth plans. The company focuses on reducing law firms’ lateral hire risk and cost by providing deep-dive investigative intelligence about prospective partners before they are hired. It builds custom in-depth profiles through a mix of qualitative and quantitative research to assess a candidate’s book of business, legal skills, work style, and character. Its confidential double-blind process delivers actionable data within ten days.

These insights are framed against industry data indicating that while many law firms pursue lateral growth, fewer than 10% recoup the cost of acquisition and about 75% fail within five years. The firm positions its services as a way for law firms and their partners to make better hiring decisions and avoid financial losses and reputational harm. The leadership is described as composed of legal industry veterans.
