DeKalb Medical is a hospital system based in Lithonia, Georgia, serving the metro-Atlanta region. In September 2018, it joined Emory Healthcare, and its facilities were renamed as Emory Decatur Hospital, Emory Hillandale Hospital, and Emory Long-Term Acute Care. The arrangement combines Emory's academic medical resources with DeKalb's community hospitals, increasing the network of physicians and care locations available to patients. Historically, DeKalb Medical operated as a not-for-profit system with more than 800 physicians across 55 specialties and about 627 beds across its facilities. It has been recognized for strengths in cancer care, cardiovascular treatment, and orthopedics, and it invested in electronic medical records to reduce medical errors and improve patient management. Following the merger, Emory Healthcare integrates DeKalb's three facilities and medical staff into its system, expanding access to care for people in the region.
