DermLite LLC, a privately-held company headquartered in Aliso Viejo (about 80 km south of Los Angeles), designs & markets the world's leading dermatoscopes under the DermLite® brand. Dermatoscopes are a diagnostic tool for skin cancer screening, giving dermatologists a magnified, illuminated view of skin lesions. Founded in 1999 by John Bottjer, Nizar Mullani and Thorsten Trotzenberg, the company, which has in-house design, engineering and assembly capabilities, launched the world's first polarized pocket dermatoscope at the American Academy of Dermatology's Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., in early 2001.
