DermLite LLC, a privately-held company headquartered in Aliso Viejo (about 80 km south of Los Angeles), designs & markets the world's leading dermatoscopes under the DermLite® brand. Dermatoscopes are a diagnostic tool for skin cancer screening, giving dermatologists a magnified, illuminated view of skin lesions.

Founded in 1999 by John Bottjer, Nizar Mullani and Thorsten Trotzenberg, the company, which has in-house design, engineering and assembly capabilities, launched the world's first polarized pocket dermatoscope at the American Academy of Dermatology's Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., in early 2001. More powerful and more versatile devices followed in subsequent years, including: DermLite FOTO, a camera-compatible device for capturing high-quality dermoscopic images; DermLite II, the first pocket dermatoscope to allow for both contact & non-contact dermoscopy as well as polarized and non-polarized illumination; Lumio®, a large-area skin scope;  DL3, the world's brightest polarized & non-polarized dermatoscope; DermLite Cam®, the world's first entirely mobile dedicated dermoscopy camera that integrates polarized & non-polarized as well as dermoscopic and clinical imaging; Lumio®S, the world's first skin examination device operated by capacitive touch.
