DigitPA operates within Italy's government administration, carrying out policy implementation under the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Minister for Reforms and Innovation in Public Administration. Its mission is to create value for citizens and businesses by advancing the use of information and communication technologies across public services. Based in Italy, the organization is characterized as a mid-sized public-sector entity focused on applying ICT to modernize public administration and service delivery.

A concrete recent development is the March 2026 introduction of the Mi Carpeta Ciudadana app, a single platform to simplify citizens' interactions with public administrations. The agency has also issued an accessibility declaration model that must be issued and updated annually, and it has produced governance guidance for the Public Administration Cloud.
