Divine Mercy University is a Catholic graduate school of psychology and counseling that integrates empirical study with a Catholic understanding of the person, marriage, and family. Founded in 1999 as the Institute for the Psychological Sciences, the institution offers graduate degrees in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.), Psychology (M.S.), and Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.S.). Its programs are designed for students seeking professional training in psychology and counseling within a Catholic context. DMU is based in Arlington, Virginia, and operates as a mid-sized higher education institution. Governance rests with a Board of Directors that includes the Bishop of Arlington, seven lay Catholic leaders, and three members of the Legion of Christ, with the Legion providing a president and chaplain to sustain the university's Catholic identity. In March 2026, DMU announced the launch of The School of Spiritual Direction.
