Doral Financial Corporation is a bank holding company organized in 1972 under the laws of Puerto Rico, with operations centered in Puerto Rico and the New York City metropolitan area. The company operates through four segments—banking, mortgage, insurance agency, and institutional securities—organized by legal entity and line of business. Its principal banking subsidiary, Doral Bank PR, accepts deposits, borrows, originates and invests in loans, and holds mortgage-backed securities as well as other investment securities. Doral Bank PR operates 35 branches in Puerto Rico, with loan originations primarily driven by the branch network and centralized loan departments; wholesale loan purchases supplement internal originations. As part of a business transformation, the mortgage origination and servicing platforms were moved to align with Doral Bank PR, with mortgage origination now conducted by Doral Mortgage, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Doral Bank PR, and servicing performed by Doral Bank PR. Through its subsidiary Doral Insurance Agency, Inc., the group offers property, casualty, life, and title insurance mainly to its mortgage loan customers.
